The Podcast for Mental Health Discourse (with no BS)
ABOUT THE JUST BE BETTER PODCAST
During my freshman year of college, a friend of mine would respond to requests for advice by jokingly saying, “Dude, just get good. Just be better.” As funny as I found the response, remembering the joke after the pandemic brings my attention to our nation’s flaws with mental health discourse. This pandemic has challenged us to reframe difficult emotions as more than something you can just “switch off” or ignore. When quarantine mandates cut out the noise of the world that can drown out our psychological discomfort, we’ve been challenged to find ways to truly reflect on ourselves and effectively self-soothe.
When I started therapy again during the pandemic, my heart hurt for those who cannot afford or attain therapy, especially during such a difficult time. I am by no means an expert on human behavior, but I feel a drive to help guide others through their mental health journey as much as possible. “Just Be Better” is a mental health podcast dedicated to bringing the benefits of therapy to everyone.
With this podcast I intend to bring vital mental health information to the public. If I had a nickel for every time in my therapy journey I asked myself, “Why doesn’t everyone know this?” I’d have a lot of nickels. I hope to bring information ranging from professional advice on specific but common human experiences, to information on how to access affordable therapy, to universal mental health skills you can take with you everywhere. Since this is an interview-based podcast, I will be mainly acting as a vessel for the wisdom and experiences offered by my interviewees.
This podcast will be aimed toward any adult who is seeking professional help, but there may be special attention towards young adults and university students. Depending on the topic of the interview, these podcasts may appeal to women, LGBTQIA+ folks, people seeking mental health diagnoses, and anyone in a transitional or rough phase of life. My interviewees include a mental health professional who will provide information on boundaries as well as a singer-songwriter who shares her experience as a performer through COVID-19 and uses journaling to help her songwriting. If any of these topics interest you then this will be the podcast for you.
So, what are you waiting for? Tune in to the Just Be Better Podcast so that one day, you can "be better,” too.
